LERR Grant for the Ben Agger Theory Library

2022-10-28

Each year, the UT System awards a block of grants to UT institutions to improve libraries and physical space known as the Library, Equipment, Repair and Rehabilitation (LERR) budget. This year the Center for Theory was awarded a $65,000 grant to make improvements to the Ben Agger Theory Library.

We will use these funds to grow the library, make it more accessible, and develop a place for faculty and graduate students to build community. The funds will go toward purchasing books, new furniture, and card readers to access the library.

Because of this support, the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington has given the library a new home. The Ben Agger Theory Library will now be located in 203 University Hall, just down the hall from its current location.

As the library grows and moves, we'd like your help for two projects. First, please send us your recommendations for theory books to include in library. $30,000 of the budget will go to purchasing books, which means we need to buy around 1,000 books.

Second, we would like to request your help. Please consider making a gift to the Center for Theory so we can hire Graduate Research Assistants (at this link, select "Center for Theory" under Designations). Each GRA costs the Center roughly $2,500 per semester and we would like to have two GRAs to work in the library. Our goal is to have $5,000 for these two positions, however, if contributed funds do not reach our goal, your gifts will be used for (insert other programmatic funding opportunities here). Every gift matters and we appreciate your consideration.  If you're interested in establishing an endowment, please contact Jacob W. Singletary, Senior Director of Development at jacob.singletary@uta.edu or call his cell phone (254)495.7664.
